PLANNING 50 - MAKEUP

MAKEUP

For scene 9 we have a section were our main actor gets beaten up by Johnny, for this scene we are hoping to give our actor a black eye to make it seem realistic. For this we looked at makeup tutorials for a black eye and cuts on the arm.

PLANNING 49 - FILMING DIARY DAY 3

FILMING DIARY

On Sunday 25th we went to Stepney Green park, to film scenes 5 & 6. It was extremely cold on that day, so we made sure we all dressed appropriately, but were still dressed for the scene. Also because we had to hold the equipment, we had to make sure that we were careful when carrying it around in order not to hurt the public and ourselves as well as damaging any of the equipment. After filming these scenes we only have our basement scenes (Scene 3 & 9) and our church scene and a few bits from scene 2. Therefore we asked our actors to come in on Wednesday after lunch in order to film our basement scenes as they need to be done, and it also means that non of our actors miss their learning time, as we are all free.

PLANNING 48 - FILMING DIARY DAY 2

FILMING DIARY

On Saturday 24th January, after last week we decided to make a timetable of all the things that would happen today. We went to the church first for an hour as they could do no other time apart from Saturdays, and we didn’t want to keep it going any longer, so we started there. However, the church was not open therefore after waiting for half an hour we got the message and left, but during the week we are hoping to contact them to re-schedule to a date where they are free. After all the waiting we went back to the school location to film the rest of the beginning scenes, although we left out scene 3 because we knew we wouldn’t be able to get any of the other scenes done regarding how much time we had in the building. After lunch we then moved onto the last couple of scenes where things start happening to Jake, we knew these scenes were going to be very long so we gave ourselves enough time to get at least one of those scenes done. We could only do this if we stuck to our timetable and script, otherwise we would be there for AGESSS! On Sunday the 25th of January we are hoping to film scenes 5 & 6 as we don’t need the school’s permission for that as it is placed in Stepney Green Park.

PLANNING 47 - FILMING DIARY DAY 1

FILMING DIARY

On Saturday 17th January, we decided to film our first couple of scenes; well that’s what we hoped for anyway! As some of our actors came late we had to re-arrange some of our timings in order for us to be on time before our location, the school, closed. We finished our scene one and began our scene 2, we realised that this wasn’t enough and that perhaps the next time we film we need to do a structured layout of timings for us to be on top of time ensuring that we get plenty of filming done and for our actors to take a break too. So for next Saturday when we film we decided to be a bit more realistic and keep our basement scenes last as we know they will be the longest ones to do, which will perhaps be done after school one day. Also from this we found that we need to ensure that both the school and sixth form are open for the next Saturday to make sure that we don’t have troubles getting into the building.

PLANNING 46 - RADIO TRAILER

RADIO TRAILER

IMPROVEMENTS:
After hearing this radio trailer we realised that the volume is too low and we want the trailer to seem as if it is reaching a climax. Also we think that the 'Jake' during the end is not as harsh and loud as it should be as well as the slam at the end.

PLANNING 45 - RECORDING OUR RADIO TRAILER

RECORDING OUR RADIO TRAILER

After producing our draft radio trailer we found that there were big improvements  to be made! For instance we now added a male voice over so that he could introduce more of the film, rather than just using lines from the script. Although, it did take some time to produce as our actors had to come in at different times due to their other commitments; however we brought them in separately and got them to record their voices and have a look at what they have produced so far. After getting feedback from our draft radio trailer we needed to ensure that the sounds level were equal and in certain areas only we should make the sound louder, for example when Johnny calls for Jake. However, we decided to keep a psychotic range of noises so it could relate well to our film, for instance in the trailer we say ‘will you run into the realm of psychosis’ we wanted it to sound really warped and twisted so that this is the kind of effects our film will have on our audience.

PLANNING 44 - RADIO TRAILER SCRIPT

RADIO TRAILER SCRIPT

Red – Voice over
Green – Jake
Blue – Johnny
Black - Sounds

A young boy lost in his mind.

Eerie music begins.

Reaches the end.

“Johnny you bringing the boxes down?”

Crashing sounds

“Why are you standing in the dark?”

Will you run into the realm of psychosis?

“I can’t control him anymore”. “He’s becoming so aggressive”. “What do I do”? Overlapped.

“You don’t need those, you’ve got me”.

Silence.

Heavy strong eerie breathing noise.

“P..p.perilous January 2015”.

“JAAAAAAKE”.

Music fades out.

Loud dragging and slamming of doors to end.

PLANNING 43 - FEEDBACK FROM DRAFT RADIO TRAILER

FEEDBACK

We showed our fellow peers both boys and girls to listen to our radio trailer and see what we did well and what could be improved.

THINGS TO IMPROVE:
  • Firstly, they said that we should adjust the sounds of some of the noises so that they are equal and don't differentiate from one another too much.
  • They also said to include a voice over so we could hear things about the story.
  • Also said to perhaps add a different effect on to one of the lines that we said, 'will you run into the realm of psychosis' so that the audience are able to hear what is actually said.
THINGS WE DID WELL:
  • Things that our audience liked were the psychotic noises that we used in the background which worked well with the theme of our story.
  • Another thing that the audience liked about our radio trailer was the use of the piano in the background as it contrasted to the idea of something so elegant to be paired with a horror film.
  • Lastly, on other aspect of our radio trailer that worked well was the way we said 'Perilous.. January 2015" as it suggested that perhaps our actor is running away from something which is why it sounds out of breath. However this works well as although Jake seems like his running from something, it is actually his own mind which plays well with our story line.

PLANNING 42 - DRAFT RADIO TRAILER

PLANNING 41 - ANIMATIC

PLANNING 40 - IMPROVED STORYBOARD

PLANNING 39 - IMPROVED SCRIPT

PLANNING 38 - CHANGES

CHANGES MADE

Due to talking to a producer called Niraj, he pointed out certain errors in our film where our audience may find it confusing or that we were giving too much away. He helped us create more innovative ideas for our film in order for the film to work well with the psychotic storyline. For instance we found that by showing the audience the pills that Jake takes before the climatic scenes, it gives away to the audience the reason why it is happening. Therefore the story is not exciting and doesn’t allow the audience to think about what problems he must be facing in order for the villain to be shown. So we had decided to take out the pills but give hints to the audience that he is taking something, but in more of a discreet way so that the audience are able to put the story together.

Another change that we had made is to our camera, we had changed it to a canon in order to get a better quality film so that everything is seen on the video. Another reason for the change in our camera is because we found that the first camera was too heavy for us to hold when we were trying to get high angles and needed someone else to do. But with the canon it is a lot smaller and easier to handle so we can hold it with ease and also don’t need to hold a boom in order to get the sound, as the mic is attached.

Although all these changes led to changing our scripts, storyboard etc.  It has made huge improvements to our film and we can see that these changes will be successful and eventually turn out to be a super cool film!
