PLANNING 5 - TREATMENT

TREATMENT

TITLE: PERILOUS (Full of danger or risk)

CERTIFICATION: 12

TARGET AUDIENCE:

  • Our target audience should be aged 16/17 over.
  • Aimed at both females and males
  • Girls that we are targeting are likely to have characteristics of Utopians and Innovators. By being innovator – those who wish to make their mark, we want our character to be portrayed as girls who have an importance and a high social status.
  • Our male target audience are egoists, rebels and cowboys. When producing the film we want it to be thrilling and exciting in order for the young males to enjoy it. Also as rebels, they want to remake the world in their own image and by having a different and quite twisted story line, we are showing them a unusual situation which may interest them as it is not something they are normally exposed to in the real world.

FORMAT: FILM

DURATION: 5 MINUTES

SYNOPSIS:

  • BEGINNING The beginning of the film will include intertextuality, where we will produce FILM 1 (The film the characters are watching) as a typical horror film. This then pans out to 3 teenage girls (Girl 1, Girl 2, and Girl 3 AKA Popular Girls) at a sleepover. As the door opens we are introduced to Girl 4 who is a small girl that wants to be in the popular girls group. The girls end up playing a truth or dare game, which eventually leads to Girl 4 forced to kill the victim (A boy who was planning extreme revenge on the popular girls as they bullied his sister). The popular girls leave an envelope for Girl 4 to read the gruesome and horrific way the popular girls want him killed.
  • MIDDLE The time changes to after school time (past 3:00pm) the popular girls are walking to school for revision talking about whether Girl 4 will go forward with the killing. However, in an alleyway Girl 4 is seen talking to someone else but then spots the popular girls and runs after them. Whilst in school, it seems that someone is stalking the girls but they are unaware of this. They end up walking to the green room, where they start to study for their media work, however Girl 4 seems to interrupt as she comes in with the wrong equipment starting an argument between the girls which makes them leave the room as Girl 4 gets upset.
  • END As soon as the girls leave the room, the camera is still playing where we see the body of a man dressed in black. After he moves out of the shot, you are able to hear the curtain rails move, implying that he is hiding in the room. The popular girls come back in and position them in front of the curtains, starting their work. However, the camera rolls to the top of the curtain rails whilst a voiceover of a news report of 3 girls dead plays. The camera changes to a high angle of the curtain rails and in a quick moment the rails are harshly pulled open and the screen goes black but we then have an appearance of the killer, but the camera is dropped and we see him walking away.

KEY SCENES:

  • SCENE 1: Intertextuality concept. Film 1 consists of 3 young girls running through a graveyard which is shown through a panorama shot, but are stopped by a mysterious black figure and we see them starting to walk backwards in terror through a worms eye view shot which is also canted. After it pans out to the popular girls in a sleepover setting.
  • SCENE 2: The girls are making fun of Girl 4, trashing her room and treating her like a slave in order to show the high status the girls acquire we see this through an establishing shot, to get an idea of the mess. Whilst Girl 4 leaves the room, the popular girls are planning their pre-prepared ‘Dare’ for Girl 4, which is shown by the camera peeking through an opening of the door where they are blurred but you are able to hear what they are saying.
  • SCENE 3: The popular girls set up the truth or dare game and Girl 4 unwillingly participates as she doesn’t want to be ridiculed. By using a high angle we see the game begin and then the camera is span around to replicate the idea of the bottle spinning for the game which eventually ends up on Girl 4. The popular girls mock Girl 4, which pushes Girl 4 to participate. The popular girls show the victim’s profile on Facebook and demands her to go through with the murder and hand over an envelope instructing her how to kill him, which we are able to see through an over the shoulder shot.
  • SCENE 4: It turns to the next day in the afternoon (past 3:00pm) where the popular girls are talking about Girl 4 and whether she’ll go through with it and the consequences.
  • SCENE 5: It cuts to the shadow of Girl 4 and a mysterious figure talking. Girl 4 through a telescopic shot catches the popular girls walking and so runs after them.
  • SCENE 6: They enter the school going towards the classroom unaware that they are being followed by male, dark, figure. This is captured through an over the camera shot and tracking shot. The popular girls go to the green room ready to study, but Girl 4 appears with the wrong equipment causing an argument within the group, leading on to them leaving as Girl 4 exits upset.
  • SCENE 7: As the room is isolated only with the music playing, we see a figure of a man dressed in black standing in front of the camera. As the camera stays in position we hear the curtain rails open and then close indicating that this figure is hiding. We know this as another telescopic shot is used behind the curtains spying as the popular girls enter.
  • SCENE 8: There is an establishing shot to show the position of each character and to show that they are right in front of the figure. As the camera starts to pan upwards a voice over begins to play which is a news report on 3 girls found dead and the brutal way they were killed (which was the same way the popular girls wanted the boy dead coincidently).
  • SCENE 9: As soon as the camera reaches the top, it is quickly transitioned into a high angle where we see the curtains suddenly pushed open and we hear a huge gasp and the screen turns pitch black. However, after this we show the killer picking the camera up and showing his face but then drops it back on to the floor and we see his footsteps walking away.
